Head's Blog: March 31

Welcome to another bumper edition of the Weekly Blog, which returns after a two-week absence due to the birth of our Communications guru Dean Jones’ daughter Lilah. Very many congratulations to him and his partner Laura.

There is so much to get through this week so let’s get cracking!

There have been a large number of Stars of the Week since we last had the chance to do the blog, but fortunately we have pictures of all those that have been working so hard in all aspects of school life.

Well done to all for their fine efforts.

Our Year 3 group recently took a trip to the Grosvenor Museum in Chester to enhance their learning on the topic of Romans.

They even got to march through the streets in Roman outfits and visit the city’s amphitheatre, which was a fantastic experience for all.

Our gifted spelling challenge stars have been working their way through the levels, with Eleanor Tunstall and Ella James joining those who have completed the scheme.

It is great to see so much hard work going into this and well done to all.

Congratulations to Lily, Geoffrey and Tilly who recently gained their pen licenses after impressing their teachers’ in class.

A huge well done also goes to our Science Week prize winners, who were presented with Easter Eggs to mark their achievement.

Last weekend saw us retain and win outright the Cooper Cup, after going unbeaten in the second leg with two wins and two draws.

It was another fantastic occasion and continues our long standing relationship with the community and club.

Our U11 squad finished their season on a high with an emphatic 7-0 triumph over nearby St David’s College to round off what has been a memorable campaign with plenty of achievement.

Congratulations also go to Pembroke House, who were runaway winners of this year’s inter-house skiing competition.

On the subject of skiing, the duo of Agatha Favill and Xavier Poynton have enjoyed further success at a slalom event at Plas y Brenin, with both coming first in their respective classes.

Rydal Penrhos was a sea of red last Friday as we did our bit for Comic Relief, and well done to all for raising as much money as possible for what we consider to be an extremely worthy cause.

One of our resident sailing superstars Matthew Stubbins came away from his first ever national competition with first place in the U12 Topper category, despite being one of the youngest competing – a fantastic achievement.

Ellie Knight has also been very busy and gained her Bronze Rookie Lifeguard Award while attending our Sports and Activities club which is held at the swimming pool.

Our Artists of the Week over the past three weeks have demonstrated some fabulous work, and well done to Llion, Damla and Harry.

The Singers of the Week have also been busy, and well done to Christian, Sam and Ada for their strong vocal performances.

May I also take this opportunity to commend our Year 4 pupils for their fantastic play Bombs and Blackberries, which brought a taste of WWII to the 21st century thanks to the stunning efforts from every single member of the cast.

Cammie de la Mare emerged with a chocolate egg from a recent Year 3 competition, although she point blank refused to share any with me at Celebration Assembly!

Our Spring Concert also showcased the very best musical talent at our disposal, and it was once again well received by the packed-out crowd.

This Friday saw our annual inter-house music competition, which saw a large number of pupils test their skills against each other in the search of valuable house points.

A full report featuring all the results will be featured on our website next week.

May I take this opportunity to wish you all a very happy Easter break and hope you have a nice relaxing time away from school before summer term.
