Head's Blog: February 10

Welcome to the latest edition of the Weekly Blog. As always it has been an immensely busy week here at our thriving prep school at Rydal Penrhos, with a host of notable achievements gained by our wonderful pupils.

Learning:

Our Stars of the Week were announced at Friday’s Celebration Assembly, with a host of pupils acknowledged for their hard work both in-and-out of the classroom.

Congratulations to Alexandra, Xavier, Felix, Rafe, Rana, Sophie, Perry, James T, Eleanor and Eve for their efforts.

This week also saw our Year 6 pupils take a trip back in time on their educational trip to the Quarry Bank Mill, which is one of the best preserved textile mills of the Industrial Revolution and is now a museum of the cotton industry.

A great time was had by all and a full report will be on our website next week.

Living:

This week proved to be a memorable one for our sports teams, with the U11 Netball side crowned Urdd Conwy champions after a fantastic tournament win.

They will now go on to represent the county at the regional finals in Aberystwyth and we wish them all the very best of luck.

Not to be outdone, the U11 Hockey team emerged victorious from a Festival held at The Ryleys, and triumphed in all their contests without conceding a single goal.

Special mention goes to Eleanor Tunstall, who scored an incredible 14 goals in five games in what was a fantastic tournament from all involved.

Continuing the unbeaten sequence were our U11 Rugby 7s side, who conquered all-comers in their tournament at St Mary’s Hall this week.

On the subject of rugby, Rydal Penrhos will begin its defence of the Cooper Cup on Saturday in their first leg clash at Colwyn Bay, and I hope to see as many of you there as possible lending your support.

It was also a superb week for our Swimming Squad, who came away from an IAPS Gala that was held at Rydal Penrhos with a clean sweep of trophies!

Congratulations also go to our Year 1 pupil Ava Culver, who was rewarded for all her hard work by gaining her Pre-Primary in Dance grading, which was administered by the Royal Academy of Dance.

Ava attends the Pearl Shaw School of Performing Arts in Colwyn Bay and practices thoroughly at home with mother and prep teacher Mrs Culver.

Our Artist of the Week was also announced at Celebration Assembly, with Fflur Pierce gaining the honour for a wonderful canvas creation.

Leading:

This week I had the pleasure of attending my daughter Maggie’s Brownies promise, where she was joined by friend and classmate Gracie Tavernor.

They both conducted themselves superbly and they are now fully-fledged members of the Brownies group – which is a testament to all their hard work and commitment.

Listening:

Don’t forget that next week sees our talented musicians take the stage at our Young Performers’ Concert, which will be held on Wednesday, February 15 from 6-7pm.

I hope that many of you will come to our School Hall to witness first-hand the amazing talent we have here.
