Head's Blog: April 28

Welcome to the first Weekly Blog following the Easter break. I hope you all had a lovely couple of weeks away from the school and a raring to go for what should be an extremely busy summer term.

Learning:

Congratulations to a number of our pupils, who will be heading down the hill in September after accepting scholarships to the senior site.

Lily Davies has been rewarded for her fine efforts during the assessment process with an Academic scholarship, while Eve Durrans also impressed considerably to earn herself a Sports scholarship.

The creativity and artist talent of Martha Hind shone through on her way to an Art scholarship, and Ruby Merrick’s performances on stage caught the eye enough for her to be awarded a Drama scholarship.

Track and field star Jonathan Osbourne has accepted an Academic and Sports scholarship, while George Watkins will join the Rydal Penrhos ranks on an Academic scholarship.

Rugby captain Zac Roberts promises to be another valuable addition to the Rydal Penrhos community after securing an Art and Music scholarship, and singing sensation Caitriona Searl was granted the duel honour of Academic and Music scholarships.

Agatha Favill took to her bike during the Easter break to cycle 20 miles between Dolgellau and Barmouth as part of a special learning voyage.

She took in a variety of sites on the scenic path, and also got the chance to find about more about the region’s rich history including learning about old railways, ship building and the numerous estuarine birds along the way – a brilliant story.

Speaking of stories, keep an eye out for a sensational story featuring Art teacher Miss Morris on the website next week, it is both emotional and inspiring!

Living:

Plenty of our pupils were busy over the holidays, with Martha-Rose Johnson part of the Stage Coach group that performed a polished 1980’s and 90’s production in Staffordshire over the Easter holidays.

She stole the show with solo renditions of the smash hits Puppy Love and Dancing Queen, before thrilling the audience as part of the group’s rendition of the Bee Gees anthem Tragedy, which has since been covered by recently reunited Steps – congratulations!

Well done to Zack Coverley, who secured a distinction in his Grade One Music Theory examination after a flawless assessment that saw him score a perfect 100 per cent for his efforts.

This was quickly followed up by the pupil’s success in his Grade Three Piano exam, which saw him pass with flying colours.

Lucy Ranales-Griffiths was rewarded for her hard work during preparation with a Brown Belt Tabs distinction, meaning she is now within touching distance of gaining a prestigious Black Belt despite her tender age.

Isabel Stubbings can now tick driving an eight dog sledge team off her bucket list after she achieved the feat on a family holiday to Lake Louise in Canada.

Leading:

Congratulations to sailing superstar Keira Luke, who took part in her first major competition and performed creditably, which stands her in good stead as she looks to emulate her brother Ewan.

Our girls’ tag rugby team have been in action today, and you can find out how they got in in next week’s blog.

Finally, huge congratulations to Agatha Favill and Tilly Trueman, who gained their level 1 climbing qualification at the Beacon climbing centre during the holidays – a fantastic achievement.

That’s all for this week, thanks for reading!
