Talented golfers at Rydal Penrhos produced another stunning effort to progress to the regional finals of a prestigious competition.
The school’s Golf Academy trio of Reuben Bather, Charley Simpson and Adrian Lewis took on Leeds Grammar School in the ISGA Matchplay semi-final at Prestatyn Golf Club on Wednesday, November 7 in testing conditions.
Welsh international, sports scholar and Conwy Sports Award finalist Reuben got Rydal Penrhos off to a flyer with a superb 5 and 4 triumph to continue what has been a sensational few months for the aspiring star.
The visitors managed to get back on level terms when Adrian suffered defeat despite another spirited display, meaning the pressure now fell on Year 9 pupil Charley to produce the good and guide team Rydal Penrhos to a memorable success.
Things did not look good for the junior captain at Rhos on Sea Golf Club after being two-down heading into the closing stages, but he produced a fantastic finale to emerge victorious 2 and 1 to book their place in the final against Bolton Grammar School.
This is the latest in a series of achievements from the school’s thriving Golf Academy, who continue to go from strength-to-strength under the outstanding leadership of programme co-ordinator Ian Richardson.
Director of Sport Allen Boyd, said: “This was another superb performance from Reuben, Adrian and Charley, who have all shown tremendous consistency which has been the catalyst of another wonderful season for them individual and as a group.
“They are all enormously committed to improving and you can visibly see their confidence and development across all areas of their game thanks to their ongoing work with our Golf Academy, and everyone at Rydal Penrhos wishes them the very best of luck in the regional final.”
