A Golf Academy star and sports scholar defied his age to achieve a high finish at a prestigious national championship qualifier.
Charley Simpson, a Year 8 pupil at Rydal Penrhos, competed against professionals at the British Par Three Championship qualifier at Nailcote Hall, which took place on Monday, August 6.
The 13-year-old produced a sensational performance in the face of stern competition, demonstrating his fantastic short game ability to finish in fifth spot to continue his exceptional recent run of results during what has been another standout campaign for the youngster.
This is the latest in a long line of notable achievements for the pupil, who has developed his game considerably as part of Rydal Penrhos’ Golf Academy programme under the guidance and support of programme co-ordinator Ian Richardson and his team of coaches.
The Rhos on Sea Golf Club junior captain has also worked incredibly hard with the school’s Strength and Conditioning department, and he also earned Eryri representative honours.
Director of Sport Allen Boyd, said: “For Charley to perform so well against professional with far more experience just shows what great talent and composure he has to rise to the occasion on the big stage.
“This was yet another superb experience and one that will stand him in good stead going forward, and Charley is another hugely positive member of our sports scholarship programme that continues produce strong sportsmen and women who are also excelling in the classroom.”
