Golf Academy stars Charley and Richard thrive at regional competition

Two Golf Academy stars at Rydal Penrhos continued their excellent recent form with a strong performance at a regional event.

Charley Simpson and Richard Wolfendale, Year 8 and 10 pupils at the school, were part of a large contingent that competed at the Mowlen Junior Trophy competition at North Wales Golf Club in Llandudno on Sunday, May 20.

The duo performed exceptionally throughout in glorious conditions on the picturesque course, and Charley managed to scoop the overall title after securing two birdies and ten pars from his round to end with a score of 42.

There was further cause for celebration from a Rydal Penrhos perspective as Richard finished in third place with 37 points, just five off the eventual winner and three off Tomas Roberts in second.

Both Charley and Richard have progressed their respective games considerably thanks to the outstanding work being done at the Academy, which is led by co-ordinator Ian Richardson and features a wealth of experienced coaches.

They are also given the opportunity to improve their overall game thanks to the school’s dedicated Strength and Condition programme, which is another element of their development that has proved highly useful.

Director of Sport Allen Boyd, said: “Charley is a fantastic young man who has an enormous amount of talent at his disposal, and it is fantastic to see all the hard work he is putting in as part of our Golf Academy programme paying dividends.

“Richard is another that has come on leaps and bounds throughout the year, and hopefully the pair can continue to progress and achieve even more during what is sure to be a busy summer.”
