Two girls’ hockey players at Rydal Penrhos have been appointed to leadership positions for the current season.
Head of Girls’ Games Nicky Head has handed the first XI captaincy role to Lucy Carnall prior to the half term break, with the Upper Sixth Form pupil tasked with motivating a talented group throughout a busy series of fixtures heading into the festive holidays.
The 17-year-old has already gained considerable experience at senior level since arriving at Rydal Penrhos last year, with Lucy making a significant impact with the first XI from the outset.
She has also developed her skills considerably as part of the Bangor Women’s first team, and Lucy will be able to call upon the assistance of Nuria Montolio, who has been appointed as vice-captain.
The Deputy Head Girl and boarder has an infectious enthusiasm that has played a huge contributing factor throughout all areas of school life since she arrived at Rydal Penrhos from Spain as a Year 9 pupil in 2015.
Director of Sport Allen Boyd, said: “Both Lucy and Nuria have been very influential members of our girls’ hockey programme since their respective arrivals at Rydal Penrhos, and they are thoroughly deserving of their appointments.
“I am very confident that both can thrive in the positions and it is an enormously exciting time for our Hockey department with the recent appointment of Dominic Maguire as our new programme head, so this will further add to the positive momentum gained in recent months that can hopefully spur our current crop on to even greater heights.”
