A former teacher at Rydal Penrhos has co-written a short novel based around true historical events.
Geoff Burke, who taught at Rydal School, together with N.G Neville, have published DEGENERATION: The story of Betsy Roberts, which is now available on Amazon Kindle and other outlets.
Set in the early pioneering era of America, it has been described as: “A gripping, horrifying story based on true historical events.
“The central character, Betsy Roberts, was a victim initially, but then found herself caught up in the horrifying and evil activities of the notorious Harpe brothers.
“How she survived and even prospered from this experience forms the central part of a novel which you will find hard to put down.”
Micajah "Big" Harpe and Wiley "Little" Harpe were serial killers, murderers, highwaymen, and river pirates, who operated in Tennessee, Kentucky, Illinois, and Mississippi, in the late eighteenth century.
The Harpes' crimes appear to have been motivated more by blood lust than financial gain. They are most likely the United States' first known serial killers, reckoned from the colonial era forward.
They are credited with killing 39 people, and may have killed as many as 50. The pair were also involved in both the American Revolutionary and Indian Wars.
The book is available to purchase at a cost of £5.69 and anyone wishing to buy a copy can do so at http://www.lulu.com/shop/ng-neville/degeneration-the-story-of-betsy-roberts/paperback/product-22933887.html
