Rugby: Former pupils part of RGC squad for Bridgend cup clash

A number of former Rydal Penrhos pupils will be part of the RGC squad looking for cup success this weekend.

No fewer than four ex-academy stars will turn out for the Gogs in their WRU National Cup clash at Bridgend, where they be looking to progress to the next stage at the expense of their Principality Premiership rivals.

Scrum half Efan Jones, a former Wales U18 international who left the school last summer, takes his place in the starting line-up, where he is joined by the powerful presence of prop Joe Simpson, who has racked up a number of impressive individual displays so far this term.

Forward Mei Parry and player-coach Josh Leach will look to make an impact from the bench if called upon.

Mark Jones’ side will look to bounce back from a last gasp defeat at Llandovery last weekend, and they can take heart from their 20-3 win at the South Wales outfit on the opening day of their debut top flight season in September.

Squad member Huw Worthington told RGC News: "As we have found out this season, no game is easy and to get any result especially on the road we need to be at our top performance. We have a chance to get into the last eight of the WRU National Cup, and also get some momentum leading into the Premiership game against Aberavon next week."
