Football team hold charity match for trek in memory of former pupil Chloe Farrell

A football team consisting of former Rydal Penrhos pupils will be taking the field in the name of charity later this week.

The side, entitled Rydal Athletic, will compete against North Wales Dragons at the home of JD Welsh Premier League side Llandudno FC on Friday, May 18 (9pm), with all proceeds going towards a trek to Kilimanjaro in memory of former pupil Chloe Farrell.

All proceeds from the climb will be donated to Ty Gobath Children’s Hospice in Conwy.

Chloe was a passionate fundraiser for the Hospice before her tragic passing last year, and was one of their ‘Hearts of Gold’ members after deciding to pledge £5,000 annually.

Another former pupil Sarah Morris will be leading the trek, and has already raised more than £7,000 thanks to a wealth of donors to her Just Giving page.

She said: “As a charity, Hope House needs an annual income of over £6.3 million to carry on meeting the needs of all the children and their families who rely on them, and almost all of their income is raised by us within the community.

“So in memory of Chloe and to try and do her proud and raise as much money and awareness as I possibly can, I am taking on this huge challenge.

“I have been involved with some serious training involving 6am runs, endless trips up Snowdon, altitude masks to sleep and train in, weeks of AMS tablets, a list of jabs and a crazy diet plan, I am going to give it my all and I'm confident I'll make it to the top.

“The team at Crime Prevention Services have kindly agreed to help towards the costs of the trip and sponsor me, and to ensure we can raise as much money as possible for this extremely special cause, the whole trip has been fully self-funded by the group to ensure 100% of anything donated will go straight to Hope House Ty Gobaith.”

The game is being held straight after the annual Staff vs Leavers’ match at the same venue, which is set for a 7.15pm kick-off.
