A host of former Rydal Penrhos Rugby Academy stars helped RGC reach the Principality Premiership West summit after a 24-7 win over Llandovery.

No fewer than five ex-pupils were part of the Gogs’ impressive victory, which sees them move above the Drovers in the standings ahead of their trip to Llanelli on Saturday.

Dion Jones, Joe Simpson and Wales U18 international Dan Owen all started the contest, with Efan Jones and Danny Cross also part of the squad after being named as replacements.

The school’s Academy is run in partnership with RGC and the Welsh Rugby Union, and it has seen a wealth of graduates go on to achieve an enormous amount both with the senior side and at high-profile clubs across the country.

Tries from Tom Hughes and were the catalyst behind their success in-front of almost 2,000 fans at Stadiwm Zip World, with the boot of New Zealand fly-half Jacob Botica also contributing significantly to the triumph.

Director of Sport Allen Boyd, said: “It is always great to see our former pupils thriving in various sporting areas, and

“The success we have had with our Rugby Academy speaks volumes on the all-round training and education our pupils receive here at Rydal Penrhos, and hopefully this is a trend that will continue long into the future.”
