Rydal Penrhos’ Uganda Team have donated a large number of educational aides to a school in the country after a successful fundraising initiative.
Following a life-changing trip to the country last summer, the group launched a ‘Donate a Desk’ campaign after witnessing for themselves the challenges that young children face in education establishments throughout the region.
The group sold cards at the annual Christmas Market and managed to raise enough money to purchase a superb 50 desks for Kitooha Primary School, which have now been handmade and transported to the facility.
Geography teacher Fleur Roberts, who was one of the travelling group, said: “Thank you to those of you who have supported our Uganda Desk Appeal.
“We are delighted to say that your contributions have helped us purchase 50 desks for Kitooha Primary School. These desks sit three pupils and make a huge difference to their ability to learn as they have been making do with sacks on a rubble floor.”
The school needs an additional 30 desks to furnish all their classrooms, and the team are going to continue to fundraise in the hope of achieving this goal.
