After 28 years’ service to Rydal Penrhos, Pre-Prep Head Gaynor Davies is sadly retiring from her post.
The much-loved teacher has been the heartbeat of the Prep School for nearly three decades, bringing an unrivalled enthusiasm and dedication to her role over the years.
A number of colleagues have paid tribute to Mrs Davies and the contribution she has made throughout her time at Rydal Penrhos:
Prep School Head Alison Hind, said: "Having been at the school for 28 years, Mrs Davies has decided that she would like to take some time out to put her feet up and enjoy life while she is still full of energy and bounce, and still looks enviably young!
"She has been a true inspiration in all things literary, particularly vocabulary as the School’s very own thesaurus.
"Gaynor has been a part of this school for so long that we will miss everything about her - not only her flamboyant wafting along the corridor and her very interesting and colourful wardrobe, but most importantly, her wisdom, her genuine care and encouragement for the pupils and also the staff."
Clare Chamberlain, said: “After working with Gaynor for nearly 16 years, I can’t believe that she is finally retiring and I will miss her greatly.
“Her phrases, vocabulary and witty humour have me chuckling most days. Her fashion sense, her lack of IT knowledge and her love of all things sparkly is what I will think of when her name is mentioned.
“However, it is her friendship that I will treasure forever.”
Catherine Culver, said: “What can I say? ! I am so sad that Gaynor is leaving us - she’s actually part of the furniture and someone who makes coming to work every day fun.
“I’m sure she’s going to do great things with her time now; shopping, sunbathing, shopping. Thank you for all your support and wise words.”
Admissions officer Susan Williams, said: “Tours of the Prep School will never be the same! She hardly ever discussed the school just the parents jobs, who they both knew and their inside leg measurement!”
Louise Devillefort, said: “When we first merged Kelly Eldon was head of Pre-Prep and Gaynor was deputy head and they were like my Hinge and Bracket.
“Sadly Hinge died six years ago and equally sadly I am now losing my Bracket. I have worked with Gaynor for 16 years and will miss her so much and her Gaynorisms!
“I will miss her daily flamboyant outfits and of course the frenzy that constantly surrounds her. She has been an amazing chaos co-ordinator and the memories made will be treasured forever. It has been a real blast.”
Jude Pyves, said: “Gaynor has been such a wonderful friend and colleague over the years. I have always admired her sense of humour and apparently easy-going ways, although she is, of course, a swan in reality: beautiful and hard-working.
“My favourite anecdote comes from our time in Uganda, which we both remember fondly, but she’ll be glad to know, won’t be repeated here.”
