A Sixth Form pupil and sailing star at Rydal Penrhos has been rewarded for his exceptional season with a prestigious regional award.
Ewan Luke, a Year 13 pupil at the school, came away with the Junior Sports Man of the Year category at the annual Conwy Sports Awards, which took place at Venue Cymru in Llandudno on Friday, November 23.
The Prefect has enjoyed another outstanding year on the water alongside long-time sailing partner and fellow pupil Zac Blomeley, with the pair recently retaining their place in the Team GB Youth 29er squad after impressing considerably at competitions across the continent.
He has also led by example in his role as Joint-Commodore at Rydal Penrhos, inspiring the next generation of the school’s sailing squad and offering coaching, support and guidance to help them achieve their goals.
He narrowly beat our fellow pupil and sports scholar Reuben Bather to the prize, with the Welsh golf international also shortlisted in the same category after achieving a number of significant milestones during what has been a standout young career to date.
Director of Sport Allen Boyd, said: “Ewan is a fantastic role model who is thriving as part of our fantastic sailing provision, and for him to win such a sought after award as a result of his ongoing commitment is a truly remarkable achievement.
“To have two of our scholars shortlisted in the same category is a real vindication of the benefits associated with our industry leading sports scholarship programme, which has produced international calibre athletes across various fields on a consistent basis.”
