Ethan gains near perfect Music grading double

A talented musician took the stage at a high-profile regional concert and gained a notable grading double to continue his exceptional development.

Ethan Bytheway, a Year 8 pupil at Rydal Penrhos, took the stage at Rhyl Pavilion for the annual Denbighshire Music Co-operative showcase concert on Thursday, July 12, where he was part of the Fusion Band.

The 13-year-old also got the chance to perform a solo piece in front of the large audience, with his rendition of Moves Like Jagger drawing a rapturous round of applause from those in attendance.

There was further good news from the scholar as he received a double grading success after securing Distinctions in both his Grade Three Music Theory and Grade Two Jazz, which were administered by the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music.

Ethan worked incredibly hard in the lead-up to the assessment with Director of Music Pete Williams, and this was rewarded with a 96 per cent score in his theory assessment.

This was followed by a flawless performance of his Jazz piece entitled ‘Evil Ways’, which saw the pupil achieve perfect 30/30 mark to ensure Ethan added to his impressive list of recent accolades.

Mr Williams, said: “Ethan is such a talented individual who is working incredibly hard to improve his musical skills, something that has seen him develop considerably during the academic year and I am enormously proud of his progress.

“He is a keen listener and is always looking for advice on ways to get better at his craft, and this is sure to bring with it even more achievements in the future and I look forward to welcoming Ethan back in September.”
