Two Sixth Form pupils have been acknowledged for their exceptional fundraising work with a special distinction.

Emily Cashell and Head Girl Olivia Williams, Year 13 pupils at Rydal Penrhos, were presented with the Award for Charity Work at the school’s annual Speech Day on Saturday, May 26.

The pair have been a hugely influential presence as heads of the Charity Committee, which organised a large number of events throughout the academic year to raise funds for regional and national causes.

Their crowning glory was the annual Christmas Market, which was held in aid of Ty Gobaith Children’s Hospice in Conwy and involved significant planning from the duo with the assistance of their Sixth Form peers.

Thanks to their outstanding efforts, the group managed to raise a total of £751.62, which was donated to the very worthy cause earlier this year.

Other prominent events included Sport Relief Day, Children in Need Day and Water Aid Day, all of which had different themes to get the entire Rydal Penrhos community involved.

Head of Sixth Form Peter Lavery, said: “Emily and Olivia threw everything into their efforts with the Charity Committee this year, and this was reflected in the outstanding collective amount raised from the events.

“They showed a tremendous work ethic and organisational skills that are sure to stand them in good stead as they prepare to embark on the next stage of their education journey later this year and for the rest of their working life.”
