Cross-Country stars perform well at Stonyhurst Trial Race

A number of determined cross-country stars at Rydal Penrhos defied their age to achieve high finishes at a regional competition.

The mixed team from the school travelled to Stonyhurst College on Saturday, February 24 for a special trial race, which saw the group tackle a tough 8.5 kilometre course in freezing conditions.

This is a stark contrast from the 3.5km course located at Rydal Penrhos, with 70 runners from other schools across the region and Alumni from the hosts.

Morgan Kendall managed to cross the line in eighth spot in a time of 32.41 despite being one of the youngest competing at the event, while Edward Patrick, Cameron Shaw and Jamie Smith all secured top half finishes and times of under 37 minutes.

There was further cause for celebration in the form of Sydney Johnson, who took 46 minutes to complete the course and was one of the first female runners to finish after a fantastic effort.

Headmaster Simon Smith, who led the group, said: “Congratulations to the whole team for braving the cold, the ice, the mud, the hills and competing very well with older, more experienced runners.

“If anyone wants to join the running squad then you are very welcome to sign up for the Penrhyn Castle Parkrun this coming Saturday.”
