Cricket: Owen secures another half century for title chasing Bangor

A talented young cricketer and Welsh youth international at Rydal Penrhos continued his exceptional form for his regional side recently.

Owen Reilly, a Year 12 pupil at the school, was part of the Bangor side that took part in a pivotal top-of-the-table North Wales Cricket League Premier Division clash with Denbigh on Bank Holiday Monday.

The teenage all-rounder opened the batting for the title chasers, remaining a constant presence throughout the home side’s time in the middle, hitting three boundaries to end the day unbeaten on 64.

This enabled Bangor to make 195-4 from their reduced 46 overs at the crease, but rain ensured there was no further play and the match was subsequently abandoned.

Owen took his batting average to an incredible 58.33 following his off-season move from Pwllheli, with the sports scholar also taking 25 per cent of the team’s wickets at the expense of just 5.40 per scalp.

Bangor moved top of the Premier Division standings with a win over Connah’s Quay on Saturday, a game that Owen missed due to his involvement with Rydal Penrhos’ First Xi in their annual Speech Day fixture against the Dolphins.

Director of Sport Allen Boyd, said: “Owen is growing with confidence with every passing fixture both with our senior side and his involvement with a very talented Bangor squad.

“His performances so far this summer are a direct result of the hard work he has put in on a consistent basis during the off-season, and hopefully this is a trend that can continue throughout the season.”
