Cricket Ones to Watch: James Gilman

Ahead of the new cricket season, we will be taking a look at the ones to watch across various year groups as they prepare for a busy series of upcoming fixtures in the coming weeks.

We continue the feature with Year 6 pupil James Gilman:

  • Name: James Gilman
  • Year group: Year 6
  • Pupil status: Prep
  • House: Snowdon

A classy player with bags of potential, James is sure to play a significant role in any success that comes Rydal Penrhos’ way thanks to his overall talent and experience.

The 11-year-old has a big and bright future ahead of him if his previous achievements are any indication, and it promises to be another successful season for the hopeful for both school and club.

His exploits as part of the Mochdre youth set-up have brought with it significant rewards, with James part of the squad that triumphed in the Eryri U11 Cup against Bethesda, which resulted in a North Wales Police Challenge Shield appearance against Buckley.

As Head Boy at the Prep School he has developed impressive leadership skills that can be easily transitioned to the cricket field, with his ability to motivate and encourage another eye-catching element of his overall game and personal character.

James will be looking to end his time with the Prep School on a high before he makes the short trip down to the senior school to continue the rest of his academic and co-curricular development under the guidance of Rydal Penrhos’ dedicated staff across all departments.

Head of Cricket Mike Leach, said: “James has shown a great enthusiasm to get better and this is reflected in the progression he is showing in all aspects of his game.

“He has been a hugely prominent figure across all areas of Prep School life in his role as Head Boy this year, and hopefully he can sign off in style with a successful season before he embarks on Year 7 in September, where we will continue to nurture and develop his skills in the years to come.”
