A pair of aspiring Triathletes gave a very good account of themselves at a regional competition last weekend.
Aydan Garrod and Josh Peevor, Year 10 and 9 pupils at Rydal Penrhos, travelled to Nantwich to compete at the UK Triathlon Cheshire Duathlon event on Saturday, May 19.
The event, which featured some of the finest athletic talent in the area, consisted of a 500-metre run, four-kilometre bike ride and 2km run in testing conditions due to the heat.
Both pupils looked very comfortable during the first stage of the run, which was followed by a very smooth transition for the multi-lap bike leg.
Josh was particularly impressive during this section of the race, while Aydan also produced a solid effort and managed to pace himself well in the sweltering conditions.
This was followed by another run that tested both pupils to their absolute limits, with Aydan recording a fantastic time of 23 minutes and 50 seconds and Josh crossing the line in 24:18.
The pair have been working incredibly hard prior to the competition under the guidance of Triathlon programme leader and Assistant Head of Middle School Paul Sanders, while also improving their overall endurance thanks to Rydal Penrhos’ dedicated strength and conditioning initiative.
Director of Sport Allen Boyd, said: “This was not only a fantastic experience that will aide them considerably, but Aydan and Josh also performed to a very high standard that will stand them in extremely good stead for future competitions.”
