Archie climbs ladder of RLSS Rookie Lifeguard programme

A Preparatory School pupil has gained another achievement as part of his work on a Royal Life Saving Society programme.

Archie Jeeves, a Year 4 pupil at Rydal Penrhos, managed to secure his Silver Stage One Rookie Lifeguard award last week following a successful assessment.

The nine-year-old produced a fantastic effort to claim his certificate, and he will now begin working hard in the hope of gaining further success from the initiative in the future.

This is the latest in a series of Lifeguard certificates the pupil has earned, with Archie coming through the three Bronze stages last year.

It has been a busy few days for the hard-working pupil, who played a starring role in the U9 rugby side’s 11-3 victory against Colwyn Bay in the Cooper Cup on Saturday, which contributed significantly to Rydal Penrhos’ overall triumph.

He also drew praise for his chemistry on stage during the annual Year 4 play, which took on the iconic William Shakespeare comedy A Midsummer Night’s Dream.

Rookie Lifeguard is aimed at children, and the scheme begins with Stage One of the Bronze Award and progresses to Stage Three of the Gold Award.

It starts off at an ability level suitable for brand-new swimmers and progressing to the level where those taking part in the programme perform impressive lifesaving tows.
