Adam Sabri in try-scoring form for Newport in Neath success

A former Rydal Penrhos pupil was in try-scoring form once again in the Principality Premiership last weekend.

Adam Sabri, who left the school last summer, was part of the Newport side that managed to secure a thrilling 48-36 home triumph over Neath.

The talented back, who was part of the school’s Rugby Academy which is run in partnership with RGC and the Welsh Rugby Union, used his exceptional skill-set to cross the white wash on 29 minutes for the Black and Ambers, who had to withstand some heavy pressure in the closing stages before eventually emerging victorious.

The 19-year-old is a former Head Boy at Rydal Penrhos and is now studying Dentistry at the University of Cardiff after a superb set of A-level results.

Sabri is the latest in a long line of Academy graduates that are plying their trade in Wales’ top flight, with the likes of Efan Jones, Dan Owen, Dion, Jones, Joe Simpson, Mei Parry and Josh Leach all part of the RGC senior squad that has enjoyed a fantastic season under Mark Jones.

Sean Lonsdale recently made his English Premiership debut with Exeter Chiefs, while Tom Williams was recently selected to the Welsh Rugby 7s squad for the upcoming Commonwealth Games.

Director of Sport Allen Boyd, said: “The success of Adam and is a real vindication of the excellent work we are doing with our young athletes here at Rydal Penrhos, and his potential to go right to the top of the domestic game is there for all to see.”
