As part of a special feature, we take a look at some of the strong individual performances that contributed to Rydal Penrhos’ record-breaking A-level results this summer.
We continue with Eric Zhao:
Chinese boarding pupil Eric arrived at Rydal Penrhos as a Lower Sixth Form pupil in 2016 and fully embraced the school’s ethos and opportunities from the outset.
The 18-year-old is a highly gifted academic who thrived in a multitude of different areas, and he was a hugely influential figure in Netherton House, providing support and guidance to younger members of the boarding community at Rydal Penrhos.
His contribution to inter-house competitions and Music concerts drew widespread praise, and balanced the wealth of co-curricular activities with his studies, something that brought with huge rewards this summer.
This overall contribution was reflected with his superb A-level results, which saw Eric come away with a hugely impressive A* grade in Mathematics.
He also secured A marks in Further Mathematics, Chinese and Physics, and he also stepped significantly out of his comfort zone to achieve a C grade in Drama.
Eric will now head on the next stage of his educational journey at University, where he will study Economics.
Deputy Head Tim Cashell, said: “We are very proud of how Eric developed both academically and as a person during his time with us here at Rydal Penrhos, and his outstanding A-level grades were matched by the way he conducted himself and represented the school and its boarding environment.”
