A host of talented young number-crunchers took part in a special competition hosted at Rydal Penrhos School earlier this month.
Forty pupils from The Ryleys, Kingsmead, Ysgol Craig y Don, Ysgol Awel y Mynydd, Bless William Davies and Rydal Penrhos Preparatory School descended on the Memorial Hall for a Year 6 Maths Challenge, which took place on Wednesday, November 14.
Those in attendance took part in a series of testing mathematical challenges over a two-hour period, with each group supported by a staff member of members of Rydal Penrhos’ thriving Sixth Form.
After a hugely competitive morning, the Rydal Penrhos Prep School team consisting of Zack Coverley, Fflur Pierce, Freddie MacLaverty and Freya Berklay emerged victorious following an outstanding academic effort, and they received certificates and a gift bag as a result of their performance.
Second place was shared The Ryleys and Ysgol Blessed William Davies after both finished the challenge on the exact same points, with Ysgol Awel y Mynydd and Ysgol Craig y Don concluding the event in joint-third position.
Deputy Head Tim Cashell, said: “We were thrilled to welcome so many schools from across the region for our Maths Challenge, and I would like to thank the staff who organised the event and our Sixth Formers for their brilliant leadership throughout.
“It was a fantastic event that brought out the very best in each pupil taking part, and congratulations to Zack, Freddie, Fflur and Freya on winning the event.”
