Rydal Penrhos Community
International Pupils

We welcome international pupils from all parts of the world to our beautiful, safe and friendly school. We have more than 20 different nationalities in the School, giving all our pupils the opportunity to broaden their horizons and learn about other cultures and languages. Approximately 25% of our pupils are from overseas, and we work hard to make sure they are fully integrated into life here at Rydal Penrhos.

Most enquiries from international pupils come through an agency, although we welcome direct enquiries as well. Agents can find and download information and material in our Agents' Portal.

All international pupils must have an acceptable level of English, as they will largely learn alongside our English-speaking pupils. Applicants must complete an English test before an offer can be made, to assess their level of English. The friendly staff in our English as a Foreign Language Department provide expert support for all our international pupils to match the individual requirements of each pupil, and to ensure they can access all areas of the school curriculum.

For pupils who may be considering British boarding and wish to experience school life at Rydal Penrhos, we offer a Summer Programme allowing pupils to stay for four weeks during term time, improving their language skills and living as a boarding pupil. See the Summer Programme page for details.

Five steps to admission to Rydal Penrhos

A guide for agents and international pupils

      1 – Registration

The first step is to complete the School Registration Form and return it to us with the non-refundable Registration Fee of £100, together with copies of the pupil’s last two school reports (and English translations if appropriate).

      2 – Entrance tests

The pupils sit our Entrance tests in English and Mathematics. These tests may be taken at the pupil’s present school, or at the premises of the agent if enquiring via an agency.

      3 – Visit or interview

At this stage most of our international pupils will visit our school to see it for themselves. An overnight stay in a boarding house can be arranged if necessary. If the pupil is not visiting the School, a Skype interview with a senior member of staff may be required.

      4 – Offer of a place

Once a pupil’s academic performance has been assessed, an offer of a place can be made. Acceptance of the place should be made within three weeks of the date of the offer letter. Payment of the appropriate deposit is required to secure the place.

5 – Visa application and joining information

A Confirmation of Acceptance of Studies (CAS) number to support visa applications will be issued where appropriate. Information about joining the school is sent out in June/July ready for a September start.

For further Admissions details or queries, please contact Mrs Jenny Marsden in the Admissions Office: or on +44(0)1492 530155.
