Golf: Academy members gear up for Denstone College fixture

Golf Academy members are in the final stages of preparation ahead of a competitive fixture this weekend.

The Rydal Penrhos contingent will welcome Denstone College this weekend for a special event that will be held at the picturesque Henllys Golf Club in Beaumaris.

Welsh U18 international Reuben Bather will be looking to put his incredible recent success to good use with a strong showing before he heads off to compete at the European Boys Team Championships with the national side, with Adrian Lewis now boasting a six-handicap after a series of outstanding displays of late.

Richard Wolfendale, who recently secured his first hole in one at Academy partners North Wales Golf Club in Llandudno, is also included in the squad, as is the winner of the Year 8 Progress Prize in Golf, Christian Cheesley.

Sam Jones is another notable member of the squad who has worked hard to improve his skill-set under the guidance of programme co-ordinator Ian Richardson and other specialist coaches, with Jacob Cousins, Osca Clark and Tom Maudsley rounding off the side.

Director of Sport Allen Boyd, said: “This is a fixture that our Golf Academy members have been looking forward to for some time, and it promises to be another worthwhile experience in a competitive setting at one of the finest courses anywhere in the region.

“Hopefully this is the same for our friends at Denstone College and I hope they enjoy their time here in North Wales.”
