Girls' Cricket: Trio come away with end of season awards

Aspiring Girls’ Cricket stars at Rydal Penrhos have received special awards as part of their incredible contribution to an exciting new element to the sporting provision.

The school implemented the programme last year and it has received a tremendous response from Lower and Middle School pupils during a successful opening period for the initiative.

Three worthy recipients received their respective distinctions at Rydal Penrhos’ inaugural Year 7-10 Speech Day event prior to the half term break, with legendary teacher, former pupil and ex-Head of Cricket Mike Leach on hand to present the prizes in his role as special guest speaker.

Year 7 pupil Jasmin Beckett-Donald has taken to the sport extremely well and was rewarded for her consistent efforts with the Best Player of the Year Award, with standout Emily Jones’ enthusiastic approach to life in the middle seeing her come away with the Most Progress Made by a Year 8 pupil throughout the season.

Rounding off the achievements was Alys Peake-Jones, who was also acknowledged for her incredible development in all areas of the game with Most Progress Made by a Year 9 pupil.

Director of Sport Allen Boyd, said: “Our Girls’ Cricket provision has gone from strength-to-strength since it was introduced, and this is a testament to the tireless enthusiasm of our pupils and the hard work being done by our specialist coaching staff.

“They are learning all the time and gaining valuable experience in a competitive environment, and congratulations to Jasmin, Emily and Alys on their respective awards.”
