Cricket: Owen and Arran turn in standout efforts for regional sides

Two talented cricketers at Rydal Penrhos continued their fine form for their regional sides last weekend.

Owen Reilly and Arran Sen, Year 12 and 8 pupils at the school, played important roles for Bangor and Colwyn Bay 2nds respectively to further enhance their overall experience in a competitive environment.

First XI captain Owen opened the batting for the North Wales Cricket League title contenders against his former club Pwllheli, and he turned in another standout knock to ensure Bangor reached their required target with minimal fuss.

The sports scholar ended the day unbeaten on 40 from 88 deliveries to seal an eight-wicket victory for the league leaders.

He is now averaging 54 with the bat, and Owen’s exceptional form also saw him turn out for the Cricket Wales youth side last week in a fixture that was rained off after the first day.

Lancashire youth squad member Arran highlighted his bowling ability for Bay’s second unit in their hard-fought draw at Southport and Birkdale, with the spinner helping himself to three wickets for the loss of 31 runs from a ten-over spell.

This has taken his percentage of team wickets for the season to 26 at an average of 27.

Director of Sport Allen Boyd, said: “Both Owen and Arran have displayed maturity beyond their years within a senior environment for Bangor and Colwyn Bay this season, and these experiences will do a tremendous amount of good for their overall development.

“They are both very ambitious and have brought their games on considerably as part of our specialist winter nets programme here at Rydal Penrhos during the off-season.”
