Cricket: Owen & Arran start domestic season well for regional sides

Two talented cricketers at Rydal Penrhos opened their new season in good form with their regional sides.

Owen Reilly and Arran Sen, Year 12 and 8 pupils at the school, turned out for Bangor and Colwyn Bay 2nds respectively and made a lasting impression on the opening weekend of competitive action.

Sports scholar Owen, who joined Bangor from North Wales Cricket League Premier Division rivals Pwllheli, made a huge impact with the ball and took the wickets of Daniel Monk (3), Martin Turner (0) and Mohamed Jayman (5) on his way to figures of 3-12 from a seven-over spell.

He also opened the batting as Bangor secured a comfortable seven-wicket triumph over Brymbo.

There was further cause for celebration from a Rydal Penrhos perspective as Arran performed incredibly well as part of the recently promoted Bay side in their first Liverpool and District Competition 2nd XI Premier Division clash with Orrell Red Triangle at Penrhyn Avenue.

The 13-year-old Lancashire youth squad member was given the responsibility of bowling ten overs and did a marvellous job, claiming the scalps of opener Graham Talbot (52) and wicketkeeper David Naylor to end the day on 2-42 as the home side ensured the contest ended in a draw after falling two wickets short of victory.

Director of Sport Allen Boyd, said: “This was a very encouraging start to the season for both Owen and Arran, who have worked exceptionally hard over the winter months to ready themselves for what promises to be a very busy summer for them both.

“They are very talented individuals who are still learning the game despite acquiring a vast amount of experience at regional and national level, and this makes scope for progression quite substantial if Owen and Arran continue to show the same dedication to their craft.”
